Lenten Reflections | Jesus falls the first time

Bible Verse

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Reflection
The weight of our sins is reflected in the weight of the cross that causes Jesus to fall for the first time. The nature of our pride is also revealed which makes us think that we do not need God and can be masters of our own lives. Jesus displays immense humility by willingly carrying our sins upon Himself. In what way are we adding to the weight of Christ’s cross? In which areas can we turn to God more?

Prayer
Lord, the weight of the cross made you fall to the ground. The weight of my sins, my pride, brings you to the ground. Our arrogance makes us think that we are invincible and do not need you. Lord, help us for we have fallen. Help us to abandon our destructive pride and to learn from your humility to rise once again. Amen

Life Sharing
My struggle with pornography through my youth made me realise that my repeated sin hurt my Lord and continued to add to the ever-increasing weight of His cross. Only when I acknowledged that I could not fight this sin on my own and that I needed the Lord’s help, did He pour out His grace into my life. Through persistent prayer, the sacraments and abstaining from small things, I was able to overcome my weakness.

Action Plan

• I will strive to identify which sins I keep falling into.
• I will seek the help of my elders/HH servant and an accountability partner.
• I will strive to frequent the sacraments of Confession and Holy Eucharist.
