St. Augustine – an example of God’s unfailing love and unconditional mercy

The life of St. Augustine is one of the most beautiful examples of God’s unfailing love and unconditional mercy. Augustine, right from a tender age was subject to the various ways of the world which influenced him and led him down the paths of sin and corruption. Only something that is good is capable of undergoing corruption, for if it were not good then there would be nothing in it to be corrupted. Being a creation of God, Augustine was therefore good, just as we are and hence, was subject to the corruption of this world.

St. Monica

The life of St. Monica is one of great fortitude, patience, perseverance and prayer. Her life situation could have easily turned her into a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law and a despairing parent; yet she was none of these. At a young age of 13, she was given in marriage to a pagan, Patricius. No sooner she was married; she realized that this marriage was not going to be smooth sailing. But Monica neither grumbled nor despaired. She busied herself in trying to lead her husband to God by preaching to him, not in words but by her behavior.

Pro-Life or Pro-Choice

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:13-14)

Time is a gift given to us by God; how we choose to spend it is our gift to Him. I spend some of mine at an orphanage, just playing with the kids, looking after them and learning from them. In this particular home I visit, there are a number of kids ranging from new-borns to around six year olds, however my heart goes out to these two particular kids. One is a little boy with hydrocephalus(a condition in which fluid accumulates in the brain, typically in young children, enlarging the head and sometimes causing brain damage.) while the other is a new-born baby devoid of pupils and with a cleft palate(a congenital split in the roof of the mouth). The thing is, of all the perfectly formed children there, it is these two that bring the most joy to me and I often wonder, why would their parents give away such a bundle of joy? Then, I stop and consider the fact that maybe they couldn't manage to bring up the child and I thank God that at least they brought the child into the world. But how many of us on seeing such children often wonder why the parents didn't choose to abort the child instead, and save them from a life that we would consider to be one of misery?

Goa District Servants Conference 2014

The Goa District Servants Conference (GDSC), 2014, was held at Fr. Agnel Ashram, Verna. The participants bonded over breakfast and gathered in the Audio Visual Hall as the FAITH band welcomed them with song. The hosts for the day Vivian Braganza and Steffy Rodrigues from the Panjim cluster introduced themselves and provided general instructions to be followed during the program. Tito Joseph Pinto, the event head for GDSC declared the conference open by introducing the theme - A Heart of Sacrifice. It was followed by the national anthem.

All Goa Singles Advent Gathering

The All Goa Singles meeting for the month of December was held in a unique manner as an advent gathering on 8th December, 2013. The programme began around 6:30 pm on Mount Mary church grounds in Old Goa. The place was beautifully decorated, setting the mood for the events that were to take place.

Faith Works!

When called to serve for a Hindi youth camp in another state, Erushka Dsouza (CFCI-Youth Goa) had many apprehensions. She held on to God’s promise as mentioned in Jeremiah and said ‘Yes’, and came back elated with her mission experience.
